How To Choose the Right Broadhead
When choosing the right broadhead, there are 3 main factors to consider: ACCUARACY-DEVISTATION and TOUGHNESS. In this case 2 of these 3 factors were key for Adams Colorado Antelope hunt, accuracy and devastation. Toughness is not as major of a concern due to the fact that Antelope are not that tough to get through. However the conditions make accuracy and devastation very important. Antelope hunts often require a longer shot in windy conditions. Choosing the right broadhead is crucial.
ACCURACY
Antelope can see very well and this will make it difficult to get close for an easy shot. It is key to have a broadhead that flies true and has a low profile. It is hard to beat an expandable broadhead when it comes to a low profile and true arrow flight. Adam chose the MegaMeat because of it’s low profile but yet has devastating results. Larger fixed blade profiles can grab more wind during a long shot and may result in being off by a few inches. One gust of wind during a shot can push that broadhead off trajectory by even a few feet if it grabs air during the arrows flight. On these open areas with very little cover and gusting winds makes accuracy all the difference during an Antelope hunt.
DEVASTATION
The bigger cut the better! The MegaMeat broadhead offers a 2″ cutting diameter with 3 super sharp blades. When you are off by a couple of inches that cutting diameter can really make up the difference. Not only can the extra large expansion save you on a marginal shot, but the size of the giant hole while provide massive blood loss and help get that animal to the ground quickly. Adam put a good shot on this Antelope and the MegaMeat did the rest.
